Providing Superior Health and Balance Through Chiropractic Neurology

The brain can make new neural connections.

What is a Chiropractic Neurologist?

Science has shown us that specific parts of the brain correspond to and control specific regions of the body. Dysfunction in the nerve connections in a particular brain region will then manifest itself in symptoms in the associated body areas. For example, an under-functioning nerve connection in the cerebellum region of the brain may produce signs and symptoms related to neck pain due to its control of tiny postural muscles in the neck.

Previously it was thought that the brain, once developed, was fixed and unchangeable. But recent scientific studies have shown that the brain is plastic, meaning that its natural state is one in which it is flexible and changeable and that with appropriate treatment it can normalize any dysfunction of the nervous system.

Chiropractors perform spinal manipulations to bring the body into alignment and relieve the musculoskeletal imbalances associated with painful physical conditions.  A Chiropractic Neurologist not only manually treats the area in question with appropriate musculoskeletal chiropractic manipulations, but by using non-invasive nerve testing, can also find the corresponding area of imbalance in the brain that is controlling and affecting the body. Then, to create healthy new connections between the nerves and the brain, the Chiropractic Neurologist will facilitate brain-based exercises such as specific types of eye movement exercises (known as “oculomotor rehabilitation”), balancing activities, oxygen supplementation, rotary activation, eccentric fast stretching, cross cord mechanisms, therapeutic use of light, sound, and smell, and physical activities using one side of the body. Once the deficient regions of the brain are brought into balance, the body can heal itself and return to optimal wellness.

What training and qualifications do Chiropraactic Neurologist have?

Doctors of Chiropractic, like their MD colleagues, are subject to the boundaries established in state practice acts and are regulated by state licensing boards. Their education in four-year doctoral graduate school programs is nationally accredited through an agency that operates under the U.S. Department of Education. After graduation, they must pass national board exams before obtaining a license to practice, and then must maintain their license annually by earning continuing education (CE) credits through state-approved CE programs.

A Chiropractic Neurologist is a licensed chiropractor who has gone on to obtain further education to  achieve a specialty that focuses on optimizing the function of the nervous system using science- based non-pharmaceutical methods.  The Chiropractic Neurologist must complete a specific three-year, 300 hour post-graduate fellowship in the field of neurology. This is the same level of training that the medical neurologists receive with much more emphasis on neurophysiology and functional rehabilitation. In addition, subsequent written, practicum, and oral examinations conducted by the American Chiropractic Neurology Board must be passed to attain active licensure. The ACNB is recognized by the American Chiropractic Association Council on Neurology and is fully accredited by the National Commission for Certification Agencies (NCCA), and the accreditation body of the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA). Chiropractic Neurologists receive rigorous training in order to be prepared to treat you with confidence, scientific knowledge, and highly personalized care.

At the Chiropractic Neurology Enhancement Center we treat your body as a whole rather than as a set of individual pains of your back, neck or any other part of your body. We eliminate your pain by preparing a treatment plan designed to rebalance any body/brain dysfunction while enhancing your overall brain health so that once your body is healed, it will not return to old patterns but will stay in balance which helps protect you from further discomfort.
